04-05-2025: muzikale herdenking bombardement op Blauwdorp

[Maastricht | 04 mei 2025] Op 27 november 1941 in de avond viel een grote Engelse torpedo-bom op de Maastrichtse wijk Blauwdorp. Het gevolg: 25 doden, zo'n 120 gewonden en ruim 140 vernielde en zwaar beschadigde woningen. Op 4 mei herdenken we deze gebeurtenis met een bijzonder programma in Blauwdorp en de Sint-Theresiakerk.

Na de oorlog, in mei 1945, schonken de bewoners van Mariaberg en Blauwdorp een glas-in-lood raam aan de Sint Theresiakerk uit dankbaarheid omdat de kerk (met bouwjaar 1933) gespaard was gebleven. Op dit raam is te zien: de verrijzenis van Jezus. In het midden zit een engel met aan zijn voeten het wapen van Maastricht met de bekende vijfpuntige ster. Op 4 mei 2025, tijdens dodenherdenking 80 jaar, wil stichting jeugd- en verenigingsbelangen Sint Theresia dit raam symbolisch teruggeven aan de buurt. 

Deze herdenking is een initiatief van stichting jeugd- en verenigingsbelangen Sint Theresia, Buurtnetwerk Mariaberg en Philzuid.

Programma (gratis toegankelijk!):

• 16.00 uur: bijeenkomst bij de plaquette bombardement op de Gildenweg-Ambachtsweg op het pleintje bij de voormalige kaaswinkel;

• 16.15 uur: achter de Fanfare Sint Servatius Biesland aan naar de Sint-Theresiakerk;

• 16.45 uur: herdenking met muziek en tekst van onder andere wethouder Manon Fokke, directeur-bestuurder Philzuid Mette Laugs, gambiste Hildegard Moonen, performer Geralt van Gemert, organist Ben Perry en Fanfare Sint Servatius Biesland;

• 17.30 uur: nazit in de Thee-resiatuin aan het Theresiaplein.

05-04-2025*: musical commemoration bombing of Blauwdorp in 1941

[Maastricht | May 04, 2025] On November 27, 1941 in the evening, a large English torpedo bomb fell on the Maastricht neighborhood of Blauwdorp. The result: 25 dead, some 120 wounded and over 140 destroyed and heavily damaged homes. On May 4, we commemorate this event with a special program in Blauwdorp and St. Theresa's Church.

After the war, in May 1945, the residents of Mariaberg and Blauwdorp donated a stained glass window to St. Theresa's Church out of gratitude because the church (built in 1933) had been spared. This window shows: the resurrection of Jesus. In the middle sits an angel with at his feet the coat of arms of Maastricht with the famous five-pointed star. On May 4 2025, during the 80th anniversary of the commemoration of the dead, the Sint Theresia Youth and Association Foundation wants to symbolically return this window to the neighborhood. 

This commemoration is an initiative of stichting jeugd- en verenigingsbelangen Sint Theresia, Buurtnetwerk Mariaberg and Philzuid.

Program (free admission!):

• 4 p.m.: gathering at the memorial plaque on Gildenweg-Ambachtsweg on the little square near the former cheese store;

• 4:15 p.m.: following the St. Servatius Biesland Fanfare to the St. Therese Church;

• 4:45 p.m.: commemoration with music and text by alderman Manon Fokke, director-director Philzuid Mette Laugs, gambist Hildegard Moonen, performer Geralt van Gemert, organist Ben Perry and Fanfare Sint Servatius Biesland, among others;

• 5:30 p.m.: afterglow in the Tea  Garden at Theresiaplein.
