Zorginstellingen

Brievenbussen in de buurt van ziekenhuizen en zorginstellingen blijven staan. Daarnaast hebben belangenorganisaties zoals de ouderenbond in het begin van het traject de mogelijkheid gekregen om advies uit te brengen op de plannen. PostNL geeft aan zich strikt aan de Postwet- en regelgeving te houden, die voorschrijft dat er in woonkernen met meer dan 5.000 inwoners altijd een brievenbus binnen een straal van 1 kilometer moet staan, en in woonkernen met minder dan 5.000 inwoners binnen 2,5 kilometer.

Mariaberg

In Limburg worden 70 van de 730 brievenbussen weggehaald. In Maastricht zijn dat er 7.  Voor onze wijk Mariaberg is dat er welgeteld precies één. Die staat op het Volks(bond)plein  in deelbuurt Blauwdorp (nabij de Aldi). Vanaf 21 oktober 2024 zullen er stickers worden geplakt op de brievenbussen die weggehaald worden en de brievenbussen zullen daadwerkelijk verwijderd worden vanaf 18 november 2024. In Limburg worden verder 13 pakketautomaten en 88 gecombineerde pakket- en briefautomaten geplaatst. Of Mariaberg daarbij hoort is onduidelijk.

Per saldo er op achteruit

Na het verdwijnen van Jan Linders als pakketpunt in 2023 is er geen volwaardig alternatief voor in de plaats gekomen in en nabij Mariaberg Het dichtstbijzijnde pakketpunt is Winkelcentrum Brusselsepoort of het centrum van Maastricht. Pakketten van bol.com kunnen in sommige gevallen bij BudBee bij AH Tongerseweg worden afgeleverd. Dit is geen volwaardig alternatief omdat de meeste leveranciers niet werken met deze service. Mariaberg telt zo'n 5.000 inwoners exclusief omliggende buurten.

After losing parcel point, Mariaberg now also loses one of her mailboxes

[Maastricht | September 12, 2024] PostNL is gradually adjusting the number of mailboxes in the Netherlands in 2024 and 2025. According to the company, this is necessary due to the ongoing decline in the number of letters and the significant increase in the number of parcels. Mailboxes that are deemed unnecessary according to legal distribution requirements and are not located near care facilities will be removed. PostNL is expanding the number of package lockers to better meet the changing needs of consumers. Over the past twenty years, the number of mail items has decreased by 70%. Where PostNL collectively delivered three letters to every household daily twenty years ago, that number has now dropped to fewer than four per week, according to research by the postal company.

Care institutions

Mailboxes near hospitals and care facilities will remain in place. Additionally, interest groups such as the senior citizens' association were given the opportunity to provide input on the plans at the beginning of the process. PostNL states that it strictly adheres to postal laws and regulations, which stipulate that there must always be a mailbox within a radius of one kilometer in residential areas with more than 5,000 inhabitants, and within 2.5 kilometers in areas with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.

Mariaberg

In Limburg, 70 out of 730 mailboxes will be removed. In Maastricht, that number is seven. For our neighborhood, Mariaberg, there is exactly one mailbox. It is located at Volks(bond)plein in the Blauwdorp district (near the Aldi). Starting October 21, 2024, stickers will be placed on the mailboxes that are to be removed, and the mailboxes will actually be taken out starting November 18, 2024. Additionally, 13 package lockers and 88 combined package and letter lockers will be installed in Limburg. It is unclear whether Mariaberg will be included in this.

Disadvantage

After the disappearance of Jan Linders as a parcel point in 2023, there has been no suitable alternative in or near Mariaberg. The nearest package point is the Brusselsepoort shopping center or the city center of Maastricht. Parcels from bol.com can sometimes be delivered to BudBee at AH Tongerseweg. However, this is not a viable alternative, as most suppliers do not work with this service. Mariaberg has about 5,000 residents, excluding surrounding neighborhoods.
